Georgetown, Guyana and Toronto, Canada. June 28, 2011
Just over a year after Guyana Power & Light Inc. (GPL) went live on CIS Infinity, the sole supplier of electricity in Guyana is seeing substantial efficiency gains in the areas of Customer Service, Billing & Revenue Management. This customer information system (CIS) project was completed in April 2010 and was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) under GPL’s Loss Reduction Investment Programme.
CIS Infinity, the customer information and utility billing solution offered by Advanced Utility Systems (Advanced) is projected to provide a full return on investment to GPL over the next five years. Within the last year, GPL has lauded the noticeable improvement in the execution of its business processes.
These improvements can be attributed in large part to CIS Infinity as it provides the following major features that were identified as being crucial to GPL’s operations:
"CIS Infinity is a quantum leap forward from our previous system," explains Mr. Renford Homer, GPL Senior Divisional Director Information Technology and Commercial Services. “It has provided us with all the necessary tools to serve our customers and manage our utility with a high level of quality and stability."
A consultant firm based in the United Kingdom was contracted to conduct a Loss Reduction study. They identified the acquisition and implementation of a new customer information system as one of the top priorities for GPL.
GPL subsequently embarked on a rigorous two-stage evaluation process, which placed a strong emphasis on satisfying functional and technical requirements in a cost effective manner.
Specific to GPL’s requirements, CIS Infinity provides the electric utility with superior tracking of customer and programme participant details and information, enhanced tracking of power losses and the ability to completely handle deposits.
Peter Fanous, General Manager of Advanced, comments on the GPL project: “Advanced has clients across North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. Our solutions and implementation strategies have the flexibility to accommodate the business and social climate of all of our clients regardless of what country they are in.”
Mr. Fanous continues, “GPL represents our ongoing commitment to providing robust solutions to South American and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) utilities. The opportunity to contribute to the building and strengthening of GPL’s infrastructure was very rewarding for our team.”
Guyana Power & Light Inc. is a state owned company and provides electricity to approximately 154,000 customers across its served areas.
