Alhambra, CA and Toronto, Canada. April 1, 2011
The Los Angeles County Waterworks Districts operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (Public Works) has completed the successful implementation of their new comprehensive customer information system (CIS Infinity) by Advanced Utility Systems (Advanced). Public Works also went live simultaneously on Infinity.Link, Advanced’s online payment and self-service solution.
On January 16, Public Works fully transitioned to CIS Infinity and Infinity.Link with minimal interruption of customer service for its 200,000 residents. The Waterworks Districts now have a more customer-focused information technology solution that will enhance the level of service that can be delivered to its customers.
As Greg Even, Civil Engineer and Project Manager, states, “Los Angeles County has a main Strategic Plan goal of "Service Excellence” for all of our customers. CIS Infinity helps us to achieve this objective by reducing the time staff has to dedicate to repetitive and manual tasks so they can concentrate on assisting customers. For example, CIS Infinity offers improved customer communication through auto-generated emails, letters, and phone messages, better tools such as user-defined, on-demand reporting and greater access to data through interfaces with asset management, financial, GIS and meter reading systems.”
Mr. Even goes on to say, “Infinity.Link completes our customer service offering by providing self-service technologies. Furthermore, Advanced modified Infinity.Link to enable customers to save payment profiles, thereby allowing them to use ‘Quick Pay’ and ‘Auto Pay’ features using multiple checking accounts and credit cards. We have found that this saves our customers time and money.”
Throughout their implementation Public Works was able to take advantage of the flexibility CIS Infinity provides by improving their business processes and adopting industry best practices via the system’s workflow capabilities and through plans to implement more water conservation-focused rate structures using CIS Infinity’s sophisticated rate engine.
Public Works provides water service to six public districts – Kagel Canyon, Malibu, Val Verde, Acton, Antelope Valley and Marina del Rey Water System - they are separated geographically, financially, and operationally. Each location is managed as though each is a separate “company.” The flexibility that is inherent in CIS Infinity allowed for the full support of multi-company configuration within a single database. As a result, Advanced was able to assist in establishing a Citrix environment as well as set up separate rates, transaction codes, general ledger account numbers, and other key configuration determinants for each water district.
Peter Fanous, General Manager of Advanced, comments on Waterworks Districts’ implementation and the flexibility of CIS Infinity, “It is important that CIS Infinity fit into the way a utility does business. With the features and functionality intrinsic to our system, clients such as Waterworks Districts can have a system that works in a way that makes the most sense to them. This combined with the hard work contributed by Advanced staff and Public Works’ dedicated and technically knowledgeable core team, were undoubtedly the key drivers for a successful project.”
